Van Isles was amazing! Me and the Babe were in rare form this weekend and got to go adventure around Victoria BC no kids in tow. The event was held at the pretty infamous Empress Hotel. Not only is this building one of the oldest in Victoria, but it's also a National Historical Site of Canada. FAAACINAAATTING!!
With The Empress literally having played Hostess to Kings and Queens it definitely felt a little weird walking around the hotel with other would be "roughians" and "degenerates" trying to find the hole we fit into. After adjusting to the stares and muffled shit talking it was smooth sailing. The convention itself stayed busy and friendly and thats all you can really hope for when attending these things I guess.
We stayed in a rad little condo that was squeezed in between and over top some retail buildings on Yates st. In my opinion the best location to be in. We were steps to a dispensary (pretty easy to get a temporary med car) and an alley away from some of the best hipster ass eateries in town.
The people were pretty Canadian for the most part (nice as fuck. . aye. . ) but for some reason most service industry employees I came across weren't ever in a rush to serve you or greet you. One place I was the only person waiting at the door and stood there for 15 minutes. plenty of open tables. . . you know you saw me man bun lumberjack barista guy!!!! you fucking saw me!! but I digress. Besides that bullshit everyone there and the place itself was pretty close to perfect. If i don't move there permanently i'll definitely be a regular visitor. Vancouver Island you rule!
